Nivo Slider Pro is here!

After months of hard work, sweat and no-tears (yet) Nivo Slider Pro is finally here, including a stunning brand spanking new site redesign by the awesome James McDonald. It’s been a while coming but we finally made it.

So what is Nivo Slider Pro? Well, it offers all sorts of perks that include private priority support, unlimited WordPress plugin licenses, the ability to use the WordPress plugin in your premium themes, free updates for life and a swanky one-click automatic upgrade system for the WordPress plugin. And that’s just the beginning. We plan to add much more to the Pro package as time goes on. So what are you waiting for, get it now.

What’s changed from the old site? Well first off don’t worry, the free open source jQuery Nivo Slider plugin is still free and open source. Nothing has changed there. We’re still developing it and it will continue to be free to use and abuse. The only thing that has changed is the Nivo Slider WordPress plugin. It is now at v1.0 and is sold at $20 for a single site license.

We’ve been really pleased with how the WordPress plugin has taken off and want to continue to support and develop the plugin to make it even more amazing. So you now have two options for purchasing the WordPress plugin, the single site license and the unlimited licenses included in the Pro package. We hope this will provide a better offering for developers and clients while keeping it as affordable as possible.

So there you have it. Nivo Slider Pro is here. Please let us know what you think about the new package and the new site. We would love to hear your feedback. Oh and don’t forget to check out the new Support section with loads of new resources for building and mainting the Nivo Slider.

  1. Gilbert, this new site is absolutely stunning. I’m so glad my old design has been superseded by something infinitely more awesome, James has done some really top work here! Can’t wait to see how Nivo Slider continues to progress and grow.

Stunning and new design :D plus one of the best slider plugin in the web right now.

  4. The new version looks really nice, even though the old one was great looking too.

  5. I am thoroughly confused by your pricing /licensing of Pro. On the surface, it would appear that all I need for a WordPress site is a $20 license for the plugin.

However, you require Pro for “premium” themes. How do you define premium?

The more I look at the options, it seems that Pro is mostly for support and upgrades….but I am not sure.

Lastly…sorry to be so literal-minded….”free updates forever” clashes with a monthly fee service.

Thanks in advance for your clarification.

Hi Chris. That’s ok. What I mean by “Premium Themes” is that if you want to use the Nivo Slider WordPress plugin in any themes that you plan to sell, you must buy Pro to get the license to be allowed to do that.

You are right in the sense Pro is mostly for support and upgrades (at the moment) but I do plan to add more to the Pro package. And yes I agree “free updates forever” may not be the best wording and I’ll consider changing it.

  6. I am with Chris on this one. I’m really confused about it all. I just bought the plugin and hoped to get support at all times. Now I need to pay an extra $5 and a monthly fee for the support I might need. And I won’t be able to get future updates of the plugin. So why did I pay for this at all?

    • Gilbert Pellegrom (268 days ago)

Woah Ann. Don’t get carried away. You can still get support at all times using the community support forums. But to get private priority support you would need to purchase Nivo Slider Pro.

Also the $5 upgrade is to the new WordPress plugin (single license). You would only buy that or pro, not both (Pro comes with an unlimited license WordPress plugin).

Future upgrades will come with both types of plugin (Pro features an automatic upgrader) but pre v1.0 versions won’t get upgrades from now on (which is why you need to upgrade to either a single license plugin or pro).

I hope that all makes sense.

whats the difference between the 0.9 wordpress plugin and the $10 upgrade to 1.0, im a customer of 0.9, curious what changes are made.

    • Gilbert Pellegrom (268 days ago)

Hi Chris. Pre v1.0 users will need to either pay $5 to upgrade to v1.0 (single license) or purchase Nivo Slider Pro (which costs $10/month).

There are no changes between v0.9 and v1.0 in the single license version. The Pro version has automatic upgrade functionality. Check out the changelog to see what each update includes.

so it their any point in me upgrading if they are the same? and im only using it on a single site?

        • Gilbert Pellegrom (263 days ago)

You might not need to upgrade just now. But you won’t get notified of future updates if you don’t upgrade.

  8. Does the Pro version support WordPress Multi Site?

    • Gilbert Pellegrom (263 days ago)

Hi Jeanne. Both versions of the WordPress plugin support Multisite.

This looks great. I’m curious if the plugin has an option for per-slideshow delay. i have a client that wants to play one slideshow, then play another after. thoughts?

    • Gilbert Pellegrom (261 days ago)

Hi Kristin. In theory if you used the jQuery plugin and used the slideshowEnd callback you could trigger another slider. But it get’s quite complex. You can’t do that in the WordPress plugin I’m afraid.

      • kristin long (261 days ago)

well, it seems we could do it just using timing, if we could tell the second slideshow “wait ten seconds before starting” and the third slideshow “wait fifteen seconds” etc. If that’s possible, awesome, if not, i’ll have to find another way. either way, thanks for your work and for being awesome!!!

        • Gilbert Pellegrom (261 days ago)

Yeh that’s true. You can use the javascript setTimeout() function to delay calling the slider.

Hi, I recently decided to start developing WordPress themes for re-distribution and surfing a bit I stumbled on your Nivo Slider which I think is brilliant. I went through the versions available and I am a little confused.

Reading through the comments I understood that in order to re-distribute the WordPress plugin i need to apply for the Pro Version, however what if I do not need the WordPress plugin? Can I simply make use of the jQuery Plugin and re-distribute my theme using this version?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

    • Gilbert Pellegrom (257 days ago)

Hi Jonathan. Yes exactly. You can use the jQuery plugin in your premium themes for free. To use the WordPress plugin in your premium themes you need to purchase Pro.

  11. Great Slider Gilbert. I’m so glad it is continuously getting developed. Every client I’ve ever shown the Slider too loves at least 2 or 3 of the different options.

    Keep it up!

  12. Hi,

    • Gilbert Pellegrom (248 days ago)

Hi. I’m afraid nothing is planned for Joomla at the moment.
